Installation Guide DF-12S (short)

Determine Deck Flush Location

The first step is to locate the best spot for

for your Deck Flush. Many decks or patios require directing debris from corners, around the pool and trying to get the debris to a doorway.

Deck Flush allows you to select a precise flushing point to get rid of the debris instead of a doorway. It may take more than one Deck Flush to solve your flushing needs.

Your deck surface will tell you where to install a Deck Flush. Usually it will be where water puddles or algae grows on your deck's surface. In most cases the best location will be near a corner.  Although Deck Flush is not a drain it will release standing water after a rain event. So locate the installation point based on your situation.

Prepare for Installation

Place the Deck Flush on top of the screen rail and center it between two of the anchor bolts which hold the rail to the concrete slab. This is a good time to inspect the rail and bolts in the event that these items need to be replaced.

Note: (Tall version is shown in this picture but setup for marking the cut marks is the same for either the tall or short Deck Flush versions)

New anchor bolts, lower screen rail and screen material can be purchased at your local home improvement store.

Mark Cut Line Locations

Hold your Deck Flush firmly to the rail and mark the rail with a hook tool or a pencil so that the outer edge of the side bracket is marked for cutting.

This is a very important step, so mark twice and cut once.

Once marked, set your Deck Flush off to the side.

Note: (Tall version is shown in this picture but setup for marking the cut marks is the same for either the tall or short Deck Flush versions)

Cut Screen Rail

It is best to us a hand hack saw for this step. If a large hacksaw is all you have then more of the screen will need to be removed to allow access for the saw between the lower rail and screen.

Carefully start to cut the lower rail. This can be tough going if you try to cut to quickly. Take your time and use precise cutting strokes. Also be careful not to mark the tile or concrete surfaces. These pictures show a deck surface that was overlaid with an acrylic textured surface so it is raised about a 1/4" above the original concrete slab.

It is likely that you will cut through the outer edge of the rail first and it may be difficult to get the inner edge cut all the way through.

Remove the Existing Spline

Use a hook tool to carefully remove the existing spline on each side of the proposed location of your Deck Flush installation location. Usually 6" on either side will be enough.

The spline needs to be removed to allow for cutting of the lower screen rail, so refer to your scribe marks to remove enough spline.

You should plan on replacing the spline because it will usually be dry and breaks as it is being removed. Be careful not to damage the screen material or you may need to replace the screen panel during installation.

Remove Rail Strip

If the inner edges are difficult to cut due to the chance of damaging the deck surface, then firmly hold the screen rail and bend it back and forth until it breaks loose.

Now take a water hose and rinse the installation area thoroughly so that the rail sets firmly on the base concrete.

If the existing rail is loose new anchor bolts will need to be installed at this point.

Mount Your Deck Flush

Now place your Deck Flush in the opening and check for a tight fit. NOTE: Do Not force or hammer your Deck Flush into the opening. This may bend the sides and keep the door from swinging freely.

Take one of the self tapping screws that were supplied with your Deck Flush and install one screw at a time using a small powered drill driver. Hold your Deck Flush firmly and keep it centered and flush with the screen rail.

Once one screw is install, alternate to the other side and repeat the screw installation one screw at a time. (DON'T OVER TIGHTEN)

DO NOT remove the screws that come with the unit until ready to mount, then only one at a time.

Attach the Screen

The remaining steps will be performed out side of screen enclosure to access the back of your Deck Flush unit.

Remove the screws that hold the backing plate to the back of your Deck Flush. Pull the screen down and attach the screws through the backing plate and through the screen then tighten. This captures the screen to the back of your Deck Flush.

Trim Screen Around Back Opening

Using a knife or blade, carefully cut the screen to match the inner edge of the Deck Flush.

Reinstall Your Screen

Now take your new screen spline and carefully reinstall the screen back into the groove on the lower screen rail.

You may find that a new screen section is the way to go when installing the Deck Flush.

Please make sure you get a good tight fit of the old screen back into the rail.
